As you can see none of the Friends' groups representing the various different forests around the UK were invited to sit on the panel which to us seems a serious omission - Whilst not claiming to be experts, FoTF have a good idea of what the public want from the Public Forest Estate.
On accepting the invitation to chair the Panel, the Bishop said "...one of the panel's first tasks will be to meet with the grassroots campaigners who recently showed how much they valued their local woodlands"
He added "...the public can have confidence that we will be robustly independent."
You can see the letter FoTF has sent to the 'Panel of Experts' Chair, Rt Rev James Jones here
The Independent Panel (http://www.defra.gov.uk/rural/forestry/panel) on the future of forests and woods in England has asked for our views. You can read more details about this, and the FoTFP response, here.
